HARYEON AHN X DIANE KWAK

GALLERY SIL, 43 HOENAMU-RO, YONGSAN-GU.

Haryeon Ahn   My name is "Haryeon", and I am an artist who captures shimmering fragments of everyday life with yarn.

I run a tufting studio in Siheung named after myself, where I offer a range of craft activities such as classes, workshops, and exhibitions.

My speciality lies in the art of Tufting, a technique that involves stitching yarn onto fabric. By harnessing the supple and gentle nature of threads, I strive to convey the comforting and soothing ambiance of everyday life.

I hope for the warmth of yarn to intertwine with your daily existence.

Diane Kwak   I am the director and designer of the handmade knitwear brand Kakekikoku.

I am engaged in diverse collaborations with various brands, aiming to deliver the inherent sense of comfort of hand-knitting.

Anything that resembles yarn, such as ribbons, shoelaces, and cords, can be used for hand-knitting. Knitting and knitwear serve as a platform for me to freely exhibit my dynamic design ideas. It is this freedom that fuels my unwavering dedication to this field.

I plan to continuously develop and present knitwear designs that revolve around warm and whimsical emotions, while highlighting the distinct characteristics of each yarn through knit graphics.

It all began with a question: What could provide solace for those weary from the relentless pace of life? The answer lay within the verdant landscape, home to crisp air and serenity.

It was especially the meadows filled with the scent of grass and gardens adorned with unique flowers that seem to exude an invigorating energy, as if unleashing the essence of vitality.

REMEDY GARDEN

In this exhibition, two yarn artists have embraced their new roles as gardeners, creating a sanctuary for individuals seeking solace from the burdens of daily life. Set against the canvas of a subtle yet breathtaking sky, abstract flowers are planted in a pot of scattered dreams in the enchanted garden.

Bushes grow and flowers bloom and wither.
This small but eternal garden in the bustling city offers a remedy that transcends affliction.

To capture the ever-shifting nature, a vase was crafted fusing an array of yarn textures in a haphazard fashion. Unrestrained by rigid structure, the incorporation of diverse widths intentionally brings depth to the composition.
Drawing inspiration from the vivid pigments of oil paintings and the myriad textures of yarn, the flowers reflect the gardeners’ desire and defy traditional norms.

As the summer of 2023 unfolds, we hope the serendipitous encounters with our remedy garden in Gyeongnidan-gil offer fleeting moments of tranquility and invigorating delight.
